CompTIA Sets a New Certification Policy
As of January 2010, CompTIA has incorporated a new policy for renewing certifications.
The new policy stated that professionals who currently held any of the following certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security, and CompTIA Network+ no longer needed to become recertified in those categories. Those individuals who obtained a certification within any of these three classifications prior to January 1, 2011 are certified for life.
Furthermore, Todd Thibodeaux, the President and CEO of CompTIA, incorporated a renewal policy that went into effect on January 1, 2011. It states that professionals who obtain certification in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security, and CompTIA Network+ after that date must renew their certifications after three years. Two methods are available: retesting or continuing education. Professionals who pass the latest exam will qualify for renewal. Alternatively, the individual can choose to continue the CompTIA curriculum in order to qualify for renewal. This ongoing program enables professionals to renew their certifications without the need to retest, while also keeping their proficiencies up-to-date with the latest changes.
In an effort to maintain their ISO 17024 accreditation, CompTIA improves upon its requirements as needed. Global credibility is essential to vendor-neutral IT certifications if they are going to remain viable options when verifying a professional's skill set and knowledge. The exam must remain an effective method of testing core competence, necessitating a need to follow the ISO 17024 guidelines on the testing of skills, knowledge, and competencies within the field.
