IT Security Professionals – 3 Important Certifications
Career opportunity and advancement in the field of technological security has never been better than it is now. The sheer number of security issues that businesses and the government are dealing with has opened up a number of integral positions for certified security professionals. Three important certifications (CEH v7, ECSA, and CISSP) provide a firm foundation for those IT professionals who are searching for a career in high-level security.
Ranging from the starting point of security coursework to more advanced levels, any of the following training courses provide an excellent opportunity to enter the workforce or continue as an IT security professional: CEH CBT, ECSA CBT, and Shon Harris CISSP CBT.
Participation in an all-inclusive CEH v7 CBT prepares an individual to start out in a career as a network security professional. Each of the CEH training videos delivers knowledge that is essential in analyzing penetration attempts in order to provide recommendations that will improve a network's security. Even though this particular EC-Council program (Certified Ethical Hacker) is an entry-level program, candidates must have at least two-year's worth of relevant experience.
Successful completion of the CEH CBT and exam enables the transition from standard network capability to that of penetration testing and security. The CEH exam entails 150 testing questions.
Taking the ECSA CBT (EC-Council Certified Analyst) leads to successful completion of the exam and certification. Following up the material presented in the CEH v7 CBT, learners develop the skills needed to progress along the path of network analysis and penetration testing. This exam is much shorter with only 50 questions to complete.
Network-focused IT professionals can follow up with the CISSP CBT (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). Building on a learner's existing foundation of knowledge, the CISSP CBT delves into a wide range of topics including physical security procedures, information security, analysis, and cryptography. It prepares an individual for employment within the government or military agencies.
Obtaining the CISSP certification is a bit more involved, requiring successful completion of 250 questions over a 4-hour period. Additionally, the candidate must complete a number of background questions. In order to begin preparing for the CISSP certification, a candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience that is relevant to 2 or more of the ten areas covered within this training.
Additionally, due to the nature of the CISSP certification, a current holder of this credential must vouch for the candidate. The rating board will not issue the certification without this. Valid for the next 3 years, the certification must be renewed. Two renewal methods are available: retesting or continued education involvement within this area of the industry.
